PAC directs to probe into and fix responsibility of corruption indiplomatic missions

ISLAMABAD, Oct 08 (Online): Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has directed to probe into the corruption and financial irregularities in diplomatic missions of Pakistan in other countries besides fixing responsibility.

Committee met under its chairman Rana Tanvir Hussain here Friday in parliament house. Besides members of committee, special secretary foreign affairs, audit, NAB and FIA attended the meeting.

The committee reviewed the audit objections in respect of accounts of Foreign Ministry for the financial year 2019-2020.

Audit told the committee there are 31 foreign missions of foreign ministry. They made purchases of over Rs 1.69 billion in defiance of PEPRA rules. Inquiry into this matter has been recommended.

Special secretary for foreign ministry said in some matters it s not possible to implement PERA law.

Chairman PAC ordered to hold inquiry into the matter within one month.

Audit told the committee that Pakistani mission is keeping Rs 124 million in current account since 2008 at Bred Ford.

The authorities told the committee this amount has been kept for purchase of plot and if the plot is not purchased till 2022 then the amount will be returned.

Chairman committee said that plot has not been purchased since the last 13 years. It is incompetence.

The committee directed to investigate the matter and fix the responsibility.

Audit told the committee corruption over Rs 135 million has been committed in different diplomatic missions of foreign minis try.

The authorities told that FIA is taking action against an accountant involved in corruption of Rs 100 million.

The committee directed to take action against the employees involved in corruption.

Audit told the committee that over 76.6 million rupees collected for Bhasha dam and Mohmand dam in London were not sent to Pakistan.

The authorities told the committee that 26 cheques received in this connection could not be encashed.

The committee directed the audit to see the matter again.
