Washington: The US aircraft carrier USS George Washington is heading towards the Middle East, according to American media reports.
A US Navy official said the carrier departed Da Nang, Vietnam, last week and has reached the Strait of Malacca. The official added that the vessel is now moving towards the Indian Ocean.
Meanwhile, US media outlets have reported alleged supply and food shortages aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, along with concerns about the mental health of personnel serving on the carrier.
According to the reports, nearly 5,000 US sailors and Marines have been deployed aboard the Abraham Lincoln for 250 consecutive days, while some personnel have spent more than 260 days at sea.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) rejected reports of deteriorating conditions aboard the carrier, saying the personnel remain committed and resilient despite their prolonged deployment at sea.
CENTCOM also confirmed that a service member who fell overboard on August 3 was safely rescued.
