Senate committee shows concerns over discontinuity of CPEC projects

Islamabad – September 16 (Online): Senate’s standing committee on planning and development’s meeting has revealed that China is ‘anguished’ with Pakistan over discontinuity of work on CPEC since last three years and that all companies are showing a mistrust.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on CPEC endorsed Chairman Committee Saleem Mandwiwala’s stance during committee’s meeting on Thursday and said that government is trying to ‘restore trust’ of Chinese authorities and companies.

Committee’s meeting was held Thursday which was briefed by Federal Minister for planning and development and Special Assistant to PM on CPEC.
SAPM said that soon CPEC will be an integral part of region’s development.

He said that projects of socio-economic development have been launched in regions where poverty ratio is high. CPEC’s phase 1 consists of projects worth 53 billion dollars. These projects include power, infrastructure projects and uplifting of Gawadar port. 21 projects worth 15.7 billion dollars have been completed so far, SAPM told committee.

Federal Minister for planning and development Asad Umar told committee that wind energy projects are too costly to be used by Pakistan.
Committee member Senator Vinesh Kumar said that Baluchistan has constantly been kept outcaste as far as CPEC is concerned.

Committee’s Chairman Saleem Mandwiwala said that work process has been dysfunctional since last three years which has taken China’s trust away from Pakistan.
