Pakistan’s External Debt Rises by Rs1.24 Trillion in Three Months

Pakistan’s external debt has begun rising again after recording a decline in previous months, according to official documents.

The documents show that the country’s external debt increased by more than Rs1.242 trillion in just three months.

During the same period, the government’s overall debt rose by Rs3.112 trillion, while domestic debt reached Rs59.441 trillion.

Between March and June 2026, the government’s domestic debt increased by more than Rs1.870 trillion.

Pakistan’s total external debt stood at Rs22.958 trillion in March 2026 but climbed to Rs24.200 trillion by June.

The increase followed a Rs207 billion reduction in external debt during the first three months of 2026. Between June 2025 and March 2026, external debt had declined by Rs458 billion.

Long-term external debt rose significantly from Rs19.720 trillion in March to Rs21.768 trillion in June 2026.

Meanwhile, short-term external debt decreased by Rs506 billion during the three-month period.
