Typhoon Bavi Leaves Nearly 15 Dead in the Philippines, Disrupts Life in Japan and Taiwan

Manila: Typhoon Bavi has claimed the lives of nearly 15 people in southern Philippines after triggering multiple landslides, while six others remain missing on the nearby island of Mindanao.

The powerful storm has also battered Japan’s southern islands and Taiwan, bringing torrential rain and strong winds that have severely disrupted daily life across the region.

Due to the extreme weather, Japan canceled 345 flights, suspended ferry services, and left more than 24,000 households without electricity.

Meteorologists have forecast wind speeds of up to 198 km/h for Japan’s Okinawa and Sakishima islands.

As the typhoon moved toward Taiwan, authorities evacuated more than 14,000 residents to safer locations. A total of 920 international flights and 280 domestic flights were canceled.

Officials also ordered the closure of offices and educational institutions in several cities as a precaution against the approaching storm.
