Los Angeles: Hollywood filmmaker Chuck Russell, best known for directing the hit movie The Mask, has died at the age of 74.
Russell’s wife, actress Anya Zane, confirmed his death, saying he passed away suddenly at their home near San Diego, California.
According to American media reports, the fire department was called after Russell was found unconscious. However, the cause of his death was not immediately disclosed.
Jim Carrey, who played the lead role in The Mask, expressed deep sorrow over Russell’s death, saying it was an honour to work with him.
Carrey said Russell created a joyful and childlike creative atmosphere on the set of The Mask. His energy and creativity inspired the entire team, he added, describing the film as one of the most treasured works of his creative career.
