Pakistan may be faced effects of severe climate change: Senator Samina

QUETTA, Sep 25 (APP): Focal Person, Relief to Flood Victims, Balochistan, Senator, Samina Mumtaz Zahri on Sunday said that Pakistan was facing the worst effects of climate change, which could be resulted in natural calamities.

She expressed these views while distributing ration bags, mosquito nets, clean drinking water, clothes, milk, children’s food and other necessities to the flood victims.

Talking to the journalists, she said that Pakistan has contributed less than 0.4% of the global greenhouse gas emissions.

She said that more than 1,400 people died in recent floods due to climate change. 33 million people were displaced as climate refugees, including more than 600,000 pregnant women.

She said that four million acres of crops were destroyed and above 750,000 animals died.

She said that Pakistan is facing an unprecedented natural disaster.
“Climate change is a huge problem for the world especially Pakistan and the international community has to come forward to prevent the effects of these climate changes,” she said.

She noted that climate change is a major challenge for the world. The international community will have to work together.

Meanwhile, Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri reached the settlements of the flood victims who came from interior Baluchistan.

She distributed more than 500 families ration bags, mosquito nets, clean drinking water, clothes, distributed milk, baby food and other essential items.

She also thanked Pak Army, FC, Habib Bank and other organizations for cooperation and their role in the rehabilitation of the flood victims.
She further said that diseases can be more deadly than floods, for which effective emergency measures must be taken.

She warned the international community, including the federal and provincial governments for other disasters after the floods.
