Seventy-eight-year-old Dorothy invited her new boyfriend, Frank, over for dinner.
Before he arrived, her granddaughter asked, “Grandma, are you nervous?”
“Of course. I haven’t entertained a gentleman since your grandfather thought bringing home a rotisserie chicken counted as romance.”
After dinner, Frank moved closer on the sofa.
“Dorothy,” he said softly, “may I hold your hand?”
“Certainly.”
A little later, he asked, “May I put my arm around you?”
“Please do.”
Then he leaned toward her. “May I kiss you?”
Dorothy sighed and reached into her purse.
Frank looked worried. “Are you calling your granddaughter?”
“No. I’m getting a pen.”
“A pen?”
“Yes, sweetheart. Let’s sign one permission slip for the whole evening. At our age, we can’t afford to do this one question at a time!”
