RAWALPINDI Oct 12 (Online): City Traffic Police Rawalpindi has immediately increased the rate of fines for motorcycle riders who do not use helmets by 1000%, after which motorcycle riders without helmets will be fined 2000 rupees instead of 200 rupees.
According to traffic police sources, on the request of the traffic police, the fine for helmets has been increased from 200 to 2 thousand rupees across the province. In this year, 71 precious lives were saved by the helmet enforcement campaign, directly or indirectly affecting motorcyclists.
Despite the growing population and the sharp increase in vehicles and motorcycles, the protection of precious lives was ensured. This year, action was taken against more than 20 lakh motorcycle riders without helmets across the province.
Meanwhile, Chief Traffic Officer Rawalpindi Taimur Khan said that the increase in helmet fines does not mean revenue collection.
Rather, the life of the citizens is protected. Helmets are not to avoid challan, but to save lives. Wear them, don’t get challaned, but make your life safer by buying a helmet with this money. All resources will be used to make life safe from road accidents.
Zero tolerance policy will be adopted on major highways including Mall Road, Peshawar Road.
On the other hand, the citizens have termed this policy of the government and the traffic police as a robbery on the pockets of the poor people and said that the traffic police do not understand their real responsibilities and are concerned about the lives of motorcyclists.
The citizens said that if the government and the traffic police are so serious about saving the lives of the people, then first check the prices and quality of the helmets. At that time, the helmets available in the market up to Rs. 5,000 are completely worthless. But in accidents, these helmets fall into pieces and fall away. Before imitating civilized countries, look at the human and people-friendly policies of civilized countries.
