Four Broken Hearts, Four Wedding Rings—and One Very Practical Decision

Four longtime girlfriends were sitting beside a pool, sipping cocktails and remembering the first boyfriends who had broken their hearts.

“My first love was gorgeous,” sighed Linda. “One kiss and my knees went weak. But he kept saying he wasn’t ready for marriage. Eventually, I married an accountant.”

“Any sparks?” asked Carol.

“Only when I touch the thermostat.”

Carol sighed. “Mine wrote me poetry, called me his goddess, then ran off with someone called Debbie. I married a plumber instead.”

“Was that a compromise?”

“Absolutely. But when he says he’ll come over on Friday, he actually arrives.”

Susan adjusted her sunglasses. “My first boyfriend promised me the moon. After five years, I realized he couldn’t even commit to dinner. So I married a chef.”

“And are you happy?”

“Well, the romance has cooled, but at least something’s still hot when I get home.”

Then they turned to Betty.

“My first boyfriend was handsome, passionate and completely unreliable,” she said. “At thirty-five, I decided I’d waited long enough. I married a quiet man with a house, a pension and excellent manners.”

“Did you ever tell your husband you settled?” Linda whispered.

“Once,” Betty replied. “He said, ‘Darling, you think you compromised? I proposed to a woman who said she loved cooking, never got jealous and could be ready in five minutes.’”

The other three burst out laughing.

“What did you say?”

“Nothing. You can’t win an argument when the man has kept the original advertisement!”😂🤣
