Washington: US President Donald Trump has approved a landmark civil nuclear agreement with Saudi Arabia.
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, the agreement will enable the United States to assist Saudi Arabia in establishing a civilian nuclear programme, giving the kingdom access to nuclear technology for energy production.
The nuclear cooperation agreement between the United States and Saudi Arabia will remain in effect for 30 years.
The agreement is estimated to be worth tens of billions of dollars and could potentially pave the way for uranium enrichment in Saudi Arabia.
Its objective is to give American companies a leading role in constructing and developing Saudi Arabia’s nuclear infrastructure while limiting the involvement of foreign competitors.
