Tehran: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has said that the defence agreement among Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan does not pose a threat to Iran.
Speaking at a press conference, Baghaei urged Gulf countries not to allow the United States to use their territory to launch attacks against Iran.
He said regional countries had realised that security could not be purchased from “false intermediaries.” He called on them to strengthen mutual trust and regional security without relying on external powers.
Baghaei said Iran would not hold talks with the United States while violations of the interim agreement continued. He added that the Strait of Hormuz could be reopened if no third party intervened.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson further said that the agreement with Oman did not guarantee the protection of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
He clarified that the United States was not a party to Iran’s agreement with Oman concerning the strait, while accusing Washington of being a major cause of insecurity in the Middle East.
