Tehran: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has appointed six senior commanders to key positions within the Armed Forces General Staff, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Basij.
According to Iranian media, Ahmad Vahidi has been promoted to the rank of major general and appointed commander-in-chief of the IRGC, with Mostafa Izadi named as his deputy.
Rear Admiral Ali Azmaei has been appointed commander of the IRGC Navy, while Hossein Taeb has been named head of the Basij Force.
Major General Ali Abdollahi has been appointed chief of the Armed Forces, with Brigadier General Kioumars Heydari serving as his deputy.
Earlier, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei appointed Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr as his political adviser and Dr Mohsen Rezaei as his representative to the Supreme National Security Council.
