Muzaffarabad: A major political upset was recorded in the third phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections as Muslim Conference chief and two-time former prime minister Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan suffered a heavy defeat, leaving him out of the Legislative Assembly for the first time in 20 years.
According to unofficial and unconfirmed results from all 214 polling stations in the LA-14 constituency, Awami Dast-o-Bazu Party candidate Sajid Iqbal secured 40,702 votes, while Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan received 19,542 votes. Sajid Iqbal defeated the veteran politician by a margin of 21,160 votes.
In LA-17 Haveli, the Pakistan Peoples Party emerged victorious. PPP candidate Faisal Mumtaz Rathore won the seat after securing 31,839 votes, while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz candidate Mohsin Aziz received 28,975 votes.
The PPP also won the LA-15 Bagh constituency, where Sardar Zia-ul-Qamar secured 16,637 votes. PML-N candidate Mushtaq Minhas finished second.
Meanwhile, the PML-N was leading in LA-16, where Sardar Mir Akbar Khan maintained an advantage over PPP candidate Qamaruz Zaman. Results from 10 polling stations were still awaited.
According to unofficial and unconfirmed results, the PML-N secured a simple majority in the AJK Legislative Assembly after winning 24 seats.
