MIRPUR (AJK) (APP):The preparations are underway in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to observe the 95th Kashmir Martyrs’ Day on July 13, with commemorative events planned across the region to pay tributes to those who lost their lives during the July 13, 1931 incident outside Srinagar’s Central Jail. According to the organizers, special prayer gatherings, seminars, rallies and tribute ceremonies will be held at district and tehsil headquarters throughout the liberated territory including Mirpur, Muzaffarabad, Kotli, Bagh, Rawalakot, Sudhanoti, Neelum Valley, Haveli, Hattian Bala and Bhimber.
The civil society organizations, political and religious groups, lawyers, business representatives and media organizations are expected to participate. The day is observed annually to commemorate 22 Kashmiris who were killed outside the Central Jail in Srinagar on July 13, 1931, during protests related to the trial of Abdul Qadeer. The anniversary is regarded by many Kashmiris as a significant milestone in the region’s political history. The AJK government has declared July 13 a public holiday to facilitate public participation in the commemorative events.
The reports from across the Line of Control (LoC) said similar observances, including prayer meetings and visits to martyrs’ graveyards, are expected in Illegally Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The organizers have also called for a shutdown to mark the occasion.
The speakers at various events are expected to reaffirm support for the peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions and the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
