PPP wins 130 out of 179 reserved seats in Hyderabad Municipal Corporation

HYDERABAD, Jun 04 (APP): The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has secured 130 out of 179 reserved seats, amounting to over 70 per cent of the total reserved seats, in Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HMC), according to the party position declared by the District Election Commissioner Muhammad Yousif Majeedano.

The PPP is followed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) with 48 seats and Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) with only one.
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) had boycotted the local government elections which were held on January 15.

According to details, the reserved seats include seats for women, youth, labour/peasant, non-Muslims, persons with disabilities and transgender.

The PPP’s 130 include 75 reserved seats for women, 13 each for youth, non-Muslims and labour/peasants and 8 each for persons with disabilities and transgender.

Similarly, 30 seats for women, 4 each for youth, non-Muslims and labour/peasant, and 3 each for persons with disabilities and transgender were secured by the PTI.

The TLP managed to get only a single reserved seat for a woman candidate.

These seats in question are further divided into the HMC and its 9 Town Municipal Corporations (TMCs).

After the addition of the reserved seats the total number of elected and reserved seats in the HMC has increased from 160 to 241.

Likewise, the total number of seats in the TMCs Nerunkot, Mian Sarfaraz, Pareetabad, Shah Latifabad, Hussainabad and Qasimabad has been enhanced from 18 each to 29 each.

In the same vein, the number of seats in the TMCs Sachal Sarmast, Tando Fazal and Tandojam has increased from 19, 17 and 16 elected to 30, 28 and 26, respectively.

However, a seat of transgender remained vacant in the HMC as well as in the TMCs Nerunkot, Paretabad, Tando Jam, Sachal Sarmast, Shah Latifabad, Hussainabad and Qasimabad.

A reserved seat for women and a seat for transgender are also vacant in TMC Tando Fazal.

In the LG polls, the PPP had won a majority in 7 TMCs and the PTI in 2 TMCs.
