Karachi: Suspected robber lynched, other saved by police from being torched

Karachi (PNI) A suspected robber was lynched, and another was saved from being set on fire by the police in Karachi’s Orangi Town late on Friday night, according to police reports.

Orangi Town Station House Officer (SHO) Jamal Leghari stated that the two suspects had allegedly snatched a mobile phone and motorcycle from a citizen named Arsalan while he was at a milk shop.

As the suspects fled, the victim raised an alarm, attracting the attention of nearby people. The mob chased and caught one of the suspects, beating him to death with blunt instruments.

The other suspect reportedly took a rickshaw driver hostage, and people were attempting to set him on fire when a patrolling police team arrived and rescued him, said SHO Leghari.

The deceased and the detained suspect were identified, and the stolen motorcycle, mobile phone, and a pistol were recovered from them. The body was moved to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Last month, in New Karachi, an enraged crowd beat two suspected robbers and attempted to set them on fire. Central SSP Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi reported that area residents had caught the suspects in the Bilal Colony police station’s jurisdiction and were about to set them on fire when the police intervened and saved them from the mob’s wrath.
