Woman dies, 40 wounded as passenger train derails near Pannu Aqil

LAHORE   –  A woman died and several other persons sustained injuries when a Lahore-bound 15-Up Karachi Express train derailed near Pannu Aqil between Sanghi and Mando Dero railway stations in the wee hours of Sunday.

According to Pakistan Railways officials, rescue operation was launched soon after the incident and all the injured were shifted to the nearby hospitals on ambulances. The Rescue teams and Pakistan Army soldiers reached the spot and conducted rescue operation. 

Railways Police Inspector General Arif Nawaz said that investigation would be carried out to know the real cause accident. Meanwhile, Railways Minister Azam Swati ordered an inquiry into the accident. 

The inquiry report would be submitted within 5 days. The minister said that strict action would be taken against those officials who were found guilty of negligence. The restoration work of the track is underway. 

However, rail traffic is being operated through an alternate track, an official said.
