Heroeic Story of Captain Karnal Sher Khan (Shaheed) Nishan-i-Haider

Captain Karnal Sher Khan was a brave and remarkable soldier of the Pakistan Army who exhibited exceptional courage and valor during the Kargil War in 1999. Born on January 1, 1970, in Swabi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, Karnal Sher Khan belonged to a humble background. Karnal Sher Khan joined the Pakistan Army and was commissioned into the 27th Sindh Regiment. In May 1999, when tensions escalated between India and Pakistan over the disputed region of Kargil in the Himalayas, he found himself deployed to the front lines as part of the Northern Light Infantry. The Pakistani army had launched a covert operation, infiltrating the Line of Control (LoC) and occupying strategic positions in the Kargil sector.

During the intense battle, Captain Karnal Sher Khan’s company was tasked with capturing the Indian Army’s strongholds on the Tiger Hill, a vital position overlooking the strategic Srinagar-Leh highway. On July 5, 1999, Captain Sher Khan led his troops in a daring assault on Tiger Hill. Despite heavy enemy resistance, he fearlessly led his men, climbing treacherous slopes and engaging in close combat.

Under his leadership, the company managed to capture several enemy bunkers, inflicting heavy casualties on the Indian forces. However, during the intense fighting, Captain Sher Khan was critically injured by a machine gun burst. Ignoring his wounds, he continued to motivate and inspire his troops, refusing to back down.

Despite their valiant efforts, Captain Karnal Sher Khan’s company came under heavy counter-attacks from the Indian forces. The battle was fierce, but they held their ground, determined to secure victory. In the face of overwhelming odds, Captain Sher Khan displayed immense courage and resilience.

Tragically, Captain Karnal Sher Khan embraced martyrdom while defending the captured positions on Tiger Hill. His bravery, leadership, and selflessness became the embodiment of the Pakistani spirit and the indomitable will of the nation.
