PM Shehbaz thanks Guterres for ‘unprecedented support for flood victims’

ISLAMABAD – September 11 (ONLINE) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday expressed his gratitude towards the United Nations’ Secretary General Antonio Guterres for showing his support towards the flood victims in Pakistan.

“A big thank you to UN SG [Antonio Guterres] for his unprecedented support of the flood victims,” the prime minister tweeted on Sunday.

“His two-day visit has been critical in raising awareness about the human tragedy. Deeply touched by his empathy and leadership. Pakistan needs global support to overcome this challenge,” Shehbaz Sharif wrote.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres had arrived in Pakistan on Friday to support its response to devastating floods and met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and visit inundated areas on his two-day visit.

In a tweet on Saturday, Shehbaz Sharif shared a picture of him along with Guterress and others, visiting a flood-effected family in Balochistan.

“While visiting flood-hit shelter camps along with UN Secretary General @antonioguterresin Balochistan today, we met a family that Allah had blessed with a baby boy a night before. I saw this birth as a sign of hope, regeneration & renewal amid an unfolding human tragedy,” the prime minister had written.
