KARACHI, Aug 09 : The 2nd edition of FoodAg 2024, flagship event of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) and Ministry of Commerce was inaugurated by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
The Prime Minister accompanied by Minister of Trade, Turkiye, Prof. Dr. Omer Bolat, Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, Muhammad Zubair Motiwala, Chief Executive, TDAP and other leading businessmen also attended the ceremony at Expo Center here on Friday.
FoodAg is a sector specific trade event organized by the Government of Pakistan where buyers from all across the world are invited to visit Pakistan and meet their business partners in the country and see for themselves the whole range of Agro and Food sector products showcased and offered by Pakistani companies to meet their procurement and sourcing needs.
This year around 650 plus foreign buyers/importers are visiting from over 70 countries to participate in the event whereas 330 exhibitors have exhibited their products in FoodAg 2024.
Country delegations from South Africa, Afghanistan, Vietnam and Malaysia had high profile meetings with Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, Muhammad Zubair Motiwala, Chief Executive TDAP and High Officials from the Ministry of Commerce.
Regulatory officers from different countries also attended the event to resolve quarantine and certification issues. T
TDAP organized G2G meetings with their counterparts. Since its inception, TDAP has been proactively promoting Pakistani Agro and food products in order to expand their business horizon and exposure before the international buyers.
A seminar on exporting Food to the European Union was also organized. TDAP also arranged 2136 sector specific B2B meetings of foreign buyers with local exhibitors leading to expected business generation of USD 541 Mn on Day 1 of the event. 14 MoUs have been signed between foreign buyers and Pakistani exhibitors in dairy, salt, food and beverages and confectionery.
Meetings of regulatory authority from Vietnam, Indonesia, South Africa, Gambia, Senegal took place with Heads of Department of Plant Protection, PSQCA, Pakistan Halal Authority, Animal Quarantine Department on Day 1 of the event.
An international food cuisine is arranged to promote taste and aroma of Pakistani food to foreign delegates.
The foreign delegates from Russian fishery sector visited Korangi Fish Harbour and inspected processing plants.
They expressed high satisfaction with the standards and practices maintained by the facilities and were keen in importing given the high standards maintained by the processing units.
The event will contribute immensely in enhancing country’s image coupled with generating economic activity in the country in general, and within the Agro and food export-oriented community in particular.
The show will go on for the next two days i.e. (10th 11th August, 2024) and the last day will also be opened for general public.
