ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz on Thursday alleged that her party senators were being called and asked not to vote for Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) candidates in today’s election for chairman and deputy chairman of the Senate.
The government has nominated Sadiq Sanjrani and Mirza Afridi for the Senate chairman and deputy chairman slots, respectively. On the other hand, former PM Yousuf Raza Gilani and Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri are joint candidates of the PDM for chairman and deputy chairman positions, respectively. The upper house of the Parliament will elect its chairman and deputy chairman today (Friday).
Taking to Twitter, Maryam Nawaz alleged that PML-N senators had recorded evidence of the calls. “Our senators are being called and asked not to vote for the PDM candidate.
Some of them have recorded the evidence,” she tweeted. Tensions rose and a fresh round of allegations of horse trading and unfair means in the election started between the treasury and opposition after Gilani pulled a shock victory over Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh in the senate seat for Islamabad. Following the election on March 3, PM Imran Khan had addressed the nation, accusing the opposition of spending money to influence the elections. This time, Maryam Nawaz has come up with the same allegations.
