IHC dismisses petition against allowing Aurat March

ISLAMABAD, March 08 (Online): Islamabad High Court (IHC) has dismissed petition against allowing Aurat March declaring it non maintainable.

The petitioner had challenged the notification issued by Deputy Commissioner (DC) allowing holding Aurat March.

The counsel for the petitioner told the court the notification from DC on allowing Aurat March is in blatant defiance of article 31 of the constitution. As per constitution of Pakistan, Islam is religion of Pakistan. Article 16 of the constitution was ignored while according permission.

The court remarked banners and placards are things of past.

The court inquired what apprehension you have now. Has the constitution not given them the right to freedom of assembly?

The counsel for petitioner told the court some restrictions have been imposed on freedom of assembly. It is not possible in an Islamic state.

The court dismissed the petition declaring it non maintainable.
