Acquittal plea of former PM Raja Pervez Ashraf rejected in illegal appointment reference

ISLAMABAD, SEP 25 (Online): The acquittal plea of former Prime Minister (PM) Raja Pervez Ashraf has been rejected by Accountability Court (AC) in the reference filed by NAB against illegal appointment of former chairman OGRA.

The AC in its detailed decision has ordered to continue the trial against all the accused persons including Raja Pervez Ashraf.

In the corruption reference 6 accused including former PM Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani are nominated.

The pleas of former secretary Sikandar Hayat and former executive director OGRA Javed Nazir were rejected in the decision.

NAB has already filed a reference against Tauqir Sadiq for causing loss to the national exchequer.

The court said in the decision Raja Pervez Ashraf was chairman of Tauqir Sadiq appointment committee and Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani was appointing authority. While Tauqir Sadiq did not fulfill the conditions related to education and experience and his degrees were also non verified. The companies about which Tauqir Sadiq showed his experience proved fake.

As per decision the accused misused the powers and failed in discharging their obligations.

Those who were overlooked in the appointment of Tauqir Sadiq also appeared before the court as witnesses.

Tauqir Sadiq is also facing reference of his alleged involvement in causing loss to the national kitty
