Washington SEPTEMBER 12 (Online): US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that US insists on free elections in Pakistan but does not support any political party or candidate.
In the routine news briefing of US State Department on Monday, when asked about the meeting of US ambassador to Islamabad, Donald Blome, with the head of the Election Commission (EC) in Pakistan, he advised the journalist to contact US Embassy in Islamabad.
Matthew Miller said that I will contact embassy for specific comments about this meeting. But I will repeat what I have said many times that US does not take a position on the outcomes of elections in Pakistan.
US Ambassador Donald Blome met Chief Election Commissioner on August 24. Earlier Election Commission (EC) had organized an important meeting regarding general elections in country.
In response to a question about the dollar exchange rate in Afghanistan being four times higher than the dollar exchange rate in Pakistan, the spokesperson of the US State Department said that we have talked on several occasions about supporting the reforms that will help economy in Pakistan and will allow for improvement, and will continue to do so.
