PGMI/ AMC convocation: 398 degrees & 238 medals conferred to graduating students

Lahore, March 09 (Online): Convocation of Post Graduate Medical Institute and Ameer Uddin Medical College was held at Aiwan-e-Iqbal, in which Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar was Chief Guest.

In this prestigious ceremony Governor Punjab conferred 398 degrees and 238 medals to the doctors of both the medical institutes. It is mentionable that in this Convocation, AMC student Dr Muhammad Saad Baber got 20 medals while Dr. Zobia Munawar secured 14 which is a record.

Principal Prof. Al-freed Zafar presented shield to Chief Guest Ch. Muhammad Sarwar and demanded to enhance the status of PGMI upto University so that doctors can attain specialization in different faculties here in Pakistan.

Principal Prof. Dr. Sardar Muhammad Al-freed Zafar congratulated the position holders and the graduates who have obtained 398 degrees in this Convocation and urged them to take the medical field to fulfill the dreams of their parents.

He asked the new doctors to serve the patients selflessly in their practical life and earn for this world and the hereafter. Doctors graduating from the PGMI are in fact ambassadors of Pakistan all over the world, he added.

Prof. Al-freed said that PGMI was established in 1974, doctors from other countries besides Pakistan come here for specialization.

The Prof. PGMI added that the mission of the Institute is research work in the field of medicine, to further advance and for this we need best medical teachers and competent doctors who can ensure medical education and better services to the humanity.

Prof. Al-freed Zafar said that so far a large number of doctors brightening the name of Pakistan inside and outside country which is undoubtedly a matter of honor and dignity. He underscored that apart from Azad Kashmir, doctors also enroll in degree and diploma courses for higher education and thus enhance national solidarity as our culture is familiar with each other.

He pointed out that there were deaths due to Corona epidemic and a large number of people were affected by it.

However, Punjab Governor Ch. Muhammad Sarwar introduced telemedicine system for the first time in Punjab which provided awareness and guidance to the citizens at their doorsteps for which Ch. Muhammad Sarwar deserves congratulations.

Principal PGMI said that in all five categories of Corona, doctors, nurses and paramedics, with their dedication, professionalism and dedication, risked their own lives and stood on the front foot to save the lives of others.

“Wall of Heroes” has been erected in the Governor’s House for this purpose so that future generations will also remember the immortal sacrifices, he added.

Prof. Al-freed said that the provision of free medical facilities under health cards by the Government across Punjab, establishment of new hospitals and revolutionary changes in the field of health sector were commendable which would directly benefit the common man. He said that the purpose of establishing PGMI was to provide medical education to Pakistani doctors who used to go to other countries for this purpose.

He said that Rs. 10 million is being spent annually on research in this Institution and a request will be made to the provincial Government for an increase in the next financial year so that the undergraduates can also keep their knowledge up-to-date, Prof. Al-freed Zafar concluded. On this occasion parents of degree holders were also present in a large number who expressed happiness on this success.
