LHC orders all TV channels to launch smog awareness campaign

LAHORE, DEC 14 (Online): Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed all TV channels to launch smog awareness campaign.

The court further remarked “ no mention of Punjab government be made any where in smog awareness campaign. Government does so often that it includes its name. The smog awareness campaign will be particularly for public interest. Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) should provide material about smog awareness campaign to PEMRA.

The case related to rise in smog came up for hearing before single bench of LHC led by Justice Shahid Karim here Tuesday.

Justice Shahid Karim remarked PDMA should provide material on smog awareness campaign to PEMRA.

The court also rejected Mayor Lahore plea for imposing fine on motorcyclists less than Rs 2000 for violating one way.

Mayor Lahore took the plea Rickshaw driver daily income is less than Rs 700. He will not be able to run his home if he is imposed fine Rs 2000.

One lady was challaned on the canal and she was weeping When I stopped she told me how could she pay Rs 2000 fine as she had not even Rs 200. Being public representative I appeal to the court to reduce the fine from Rs 2000 to Rs 500 for motorcyclists.

Justice Shahid Karim remarked why this thing did not hit her mind when her son was violating one way .

He further remarked we all together have to make efforts to curb smog. Then the result will come out.

The court while expressing satisfaction over anti encroachment operation by LDA ordered that PLS traffic plan be presented on Thursday.
