Maryam Nawaz: First Female Chief Minister of Punjab By Hadia Safeer

In Punjab Assembly election of PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz as the province’s chief minister took place in the face of a boycott by members of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Maryam received 220 votes in the chief ministerial election, making her the first female chief minister in Pakistani history.
As the first woman to hold Punjab’s prestigious Chief Ministership in the province’s history, PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz has broken down barriers by reaching this position. On her winning speech she expressed her feelings in a way that “This is the honor of every mother, sister and daughter that a woman has been elected as the CM and I pray that the process continues and more women take my place as the leader of the house”. Then further she said “On this occasion, I thank my late mother too as she knowingly and unknowingly trained me for this day. She is still present with me, her prayers and best wishes. She taught me how to face trials”.

In her capacity as Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz has presented a comprehensive plan of action to tackle the various issues that the province and its people are confronting. Promoting inclusive growth, social cohesion, and good governance are essential components of her program; she places special focus on uplifting neglected populations and empowering women. The ‘Ramazan Negehban’ package, which she recently distributed, is intended to help millions of households in Punjab.

Punjab is set to experience unparalleled advancements in critical areas like information technology, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and agriculture under her direction.
With the building of the 21-story Arfa Karim Tower-2 and other IT, education, and film city projects that will undoubtedly present chances for IT enterprises, the CM’s ambition is to transform Punjab into an IT-enabled province.

She also sees prestigious international universities setting their campuses in the planned Education City Lahore. In addition to this, a free WiFi trial project for everyone will shortly be introduced in Lahore under her energetic guidance. She also launched IPad Scheme after Laptop Scheme for students.

In order to strengthen national cohesiveness and unity, Maryam Nawaz is also dedicated to cultivating stronger relationships with the federal administration and other provinces. For women all around Pakistan, her trailblazing example and unwavering resolve serve as a light of hope, encouraging others to overcome social restraints and courageously and resolutely follow their dreams. Her dedication goes beyond merely advocating; she actively looks for ways to advance women’s careers by taking on projects like offering secure and easily accessible hostels.

The CM brought attention to the problem of harassment and stated that she intended to start a hotline just for women. “The women who go out of her house for any necessity should be protected,” she stated. She went on to discuss equality, suggesting that women should be eligible for loans on the same terms as men. She went on to say that she will make an effort to open daycare facilities in every office. Maryam Nawaz also promised to give marginalized and minority people rights and safety. In order to eliminate lines, she continued, the province needs to go paperless and digital.
A bold effort to deliver ecologically friendly buses and e-bikes to Punjab’s major cities is being led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who is aware of the pressing need for sustainable transportation options. She has also announced the creation of a cancer hospital in Lahore and the opening of a state-of-the-art cardiology center in Sargodha to improve the province’s healthcare infrastructure.
