CALIFORNIA Oct 01 (Online): A group of Armenians attacked Turkey’s ambassador to the United States because of Ankara’s pro-Baku stance in the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
According to a foreign news agency, this incident happened when he was attending a conference in the US state of California when a group of youths chased him, threw water on him and attacked him by gathering around and beat him.
However, the Turkish ambassador managed to escape with his self help. Meanwhile, the US Diplomatic Security Unit and the Los Angeles Police Department intervened and took necessary security measures to prevent such incidents from escalating on the university campus.
Turkish Foreign Ministry condemned the attack by Armenian groups on the participants of the Turkish Public Diplomacy Conference held at the University of Southern California.
Our officials who attended a public diplomacy conference organized by the Annaberg School of Journalism and the Yunus Emre Institute at the University of Southern California on September 29, 2023, were targeted and verbally and physically harassed by Armenian extremist groups, the statement said.
Turkey’s Foreign Ministry expressed concern over the incident and said hate speech was used by extremist migrant groups targeting Turkey, Azerbaijan and, more recently, the Armenian government and the peace process in the region. .
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that necessary legal action will be initiated against those who participated in the attack.
