UNSC urged to play role in resolving Kashmir issue

ISLAMABAD SEPTEMBER 01 (Online): Army Chief General Asim Munir demanded the United Nations Security Council and the Secretary General to play a role in resolving the Jammu and Kashmir issue and said that Pakistan wants a region where peace is established.

Meeting was held to review the preparations regarding the ministerial meeting of the United Nations peacekeeping mission. In the meeting, Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir attended the concluding session as the chief guest.

The meeting held on the topic of security and protection of the peacekeeping mission was jointly hosted by Pakistan and Japan. The meeting was attended by delegates from various countries, senior officials of the United Nations and members of the diplomatic community in Islamabad.

The Chief of Army Staff highlighted the increasing challenges and threats faced by the peacekeeping forces and said that the role of the United Nations in maintaining world peace is commendable, enabling the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission to protect the peacekeeping personnel. And more effective in dealing with complex threats while ensuring security.

General Asim Munir said that Pakistan wants a region where peace is established, where trade, transit and investment lead to prosperity for all states in South, West and Central Asia. And play your part for a peaceful solution to Kashmir in accordance with the resolutions of the Security Council and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

The Under-Secretary General Department of Peace Operations thanked Pakistan for hosting the conference and for playing a valuable role for world peace.

Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani said that Pakistan’s commitment to peace efforts spanning six decades is a clear manifestation of Pakistan’s role in global peace and security. The Foreign Minister paid tribute to all the brave men and women, including 171 Pakistanis, who laid down their lives for the great cause of peace.

The Foreign Minister emphasized the need to ensure a safe environment for the UN peacekeepers who are rendering their services for peace throughout the world.
