PTV’s first announcer Kanwal Naseer passes away

ISLAMABAD    –  Pakistan Television’s first female announcer Kanwal Naseer died here yesterday. The renowned broadcaster was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Islamabad due to illness since last couple of days. Kanwal Naseer has been associated with PTV and Radio Pakistan for more than five decades.  She was the daughter of renowned broadcaster Mohani Hameed (Apa Shamim). Kanwal Naseer made her first announcement being pioneer employee of PTV on November 26, 1964 when PTV was established. She started working in PTV at the age of 17 and she was also the first heroin of a TV drama. For the first time on the PTV screen, she uttered the first words saying “My name is Kanwal Naseer. Today, television has come to Pakistan. Congratulations to everyone”.
