Galle Test: Sri Lanka in strong hold as day three summed up early

GALLE, Sri Lanka – July 26 (ONLINE) Sri Lanka finished day three of second test against Pakistan Tuesday at 176-5, potentially having a lead of 323 runs and five wickets in hand.

Pakistan’s innings was wrapped up by the Lankan bowlers Tuesday morning, as the green shirts were bowled out for 231 in reply of Sri Lanka’s first innings’ 378, conceding a deficit of 147 runs.

Runs were coming for the Sri Lankans on day three flowingly, as the wickets kept tumbling at the other end in regular intervals, before the day’s play was finished way before due time, amidst bad lights.

Dimuth Karunaratne and Dhananjaya de Silva remained not out at crease, with scores of 27* and 30* respectively. Naseem Shah picked up two wickets, while spinners Yasir Shah, Muhammad Nawaz and Agha Salman managed to bag one wicket each.

No Pakistani top and middle order batsman could really get a going during their first innings, except Agha Salman, who scored his maiden half century. Opener Imam-ul-Haq showed some character in the start, as the left-handed opener scored 32, but he could not carry on with his innings and was clean bowled by Dhananjaya de Silva.

Earlier in their first innings, the hosts had managed to post a solid 378 runs total at a tricky Galle pitch, owing to substantial input from their middle order. Danesh Chandimal continued with his red-hot form and smashed another 80.
