Opposition leaders demand verdict on PTI’s foreign funding case

ISLAMABAD    –  The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) on Tuesday accused Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of receiving prohibited funds from abroad.

Leaders of the 11-party opposition alliance while addressing the protesters in front of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), one after another, demanded the commission to avoid delay in the foreign funding case against PTI and announce the verdict as soon as possible.

Addressing the rally vice president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Maryam Nawaz claimed that Prime Minister Imran Khan had received funds from India and Israel. She claimed that the Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member Ander Dosanj and an Israeli citizen Barry Schneps had funded Imran Khan’s party.

She claimed that the foreign funding case against the ruling party was a worst kind of fraud which cannot be ignored; adding that Imran Khan cannot blame his agents for prohibited funding as he knew all about the funding from the very start.

Maryam Nawaz during her speech said that they were gathered in front of the ECP to remind it of its legal and constitutional responsibilities; adding that ECP was an institution of the masses and its job was to respect the nation’s votes without any pressure.

Commenting on the status of the PTI foreign funding case and role of the Scrutiny Committee, Maryam Nawaz said that the Commission had formed the Committee to investigate the case against PTI, but despite over seventy meetings the committee failed to finalise its report.

Criticising the ECP, Maryam said that why ECP was silent at the time when it was held hostage and Imran Khan was imposed on the people of Pakistan through stealing the votes of the people of Pakistan. She lamented that cases against former PM Nawaz Sharif could be decided within few days, but the pace and status of justice was different in the case of PTI and Imran Khan.

Talking about Broadsheet scandal, Maryam Nawaz said that the money collected by the taxes of the poor people of Pakistan was given to a fake company of England and they must be asked for it.

Meanwhile, Jamiat Ulema e Islam (JUI) Chief and Head of PDM Maulana Fazl Rehman claimed that PM Imran Khan was a foreign agent and had contested the elections by the money funded by Israel and India allegedly. Maulana claimed that India and Israel were the enemies of Pakistan and their agent was made Prime Minister of Pakistan.

He maintained that the non political institutions had imposed Imran Khan on the people of Pakistan; adding that the institutions were responsible for everything happening with the people of Pakistan due to the failed policies of the incompetent government.

Criticising the ECP Maulana Fazl Rehman said that they had lost faith and trust on the Commission as they were siding with the government by not deciding the foreign funding case against PTI. He said that the imposed and selected ruler will not find a way out to escape when PDM launch its final long march towards Islamabad in coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and former PM Raja Pervez Ashraf said that they will keep fighting until the dismissal of Imran Khan. He said that the concerned authorities must hold accountable those have taken prohibited funds.

Baluchistan National Party (BNP) Chief and ally of PTI Akhtar while addressing the gathering said that they were here for the civil supremacy as the people of Pakistan wanted supremacy of constitution.

Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chief on the occasion said that there was something fishy in the case against PTI even after six years failed to provide evidences of their prohibited funding to the commission.

Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Chief in his speech said that the government had failed to provide security to its citizens in Balochistan. ANP’s leader and former Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Haider Khan Hoti said that the commission must not waste more time and should announce the verdict of the PTI foreign funding case with no further delay.
