Approval from cabinet not obtained in raising the prices of petroleum products: Counsel for petitioner tells LHC

LAHORE, June 22 (Online): Lahore High Court (LHC) has sought reply from federal government, ministry of petroleum and OGRA on a petition filed against hike in the prices of petroleum products.

Petition against enhancement in the prices of petroleum products came up for hearing before single bench of LHC led by Justice Shahid Karim here Wednesday.

Azhar SIddique counsel for the petitioner pointed out robust increase has been made in the prices of the petroleum products during the last 21 days which carries no justification.

The counsel told the court the spike in the prices has stirred storm of inflation in the country. All the basic necessities of life including transport have become costly.

He raised the point approval from federal cabinet has not been obtained while raising the price of petroleum products. This hike is in derogation of the articles of the constitution.

The counsel for the petitioner requested the court to nullify the hike in the prices of petroleum products.

The court while issuing notices to the respondents has sought reply from them on June 28.
