SC suspends LHC order on selection of assistants for Hajj arrangements

ISLAMABAD, June 22 (Online): Supreme Court (SC) has suspended Lahore High Court (LHC) order regarding selection of assistants for Hajj arrangements.

The matter of selection of assistants for Hajjj arrangements came up for hearing before a 3-member bench of SC presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial Wednesday.

At the inception of hearing of the case the Deputy Attorney General (DAG) took the plea while giving arguments Hajj arrangements are becoming affected due to high court order. The assistants are selected for providing service to Hajj pilgrims. The selection of assistants for Hajj pilgrims is the demand of Saudi Arabia government.

The CJP inquired who selects the assistants. Who pays compensation to the assistants.

AAG told the court names are sought from government departments in connection with selection of assistants. The respective department pays compensation to the assistants. We are ready to give reply to the questions from LHC. If the order is not suspended then Hajj pilgrims arriving in Saudi Arabia will face difficulties.

The SC while suspending LHC order for selection of assistants in connection with Hajj arrangements remarked we don’t intervene in interim order generally. We are suspending LHC order in view of Hajj pilgrims difficulties.
