ECP to take legal action against federal ministers

Islamabad – September 12 (Online): Election Commission of Pakistan’s urgent meeting under Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan has been called in Islamabad on Monday to discuss allegations made by federal ministers and PM’s advisor against the CEC.

Two members of ECP, Secretary ECP and other officials will participate in meeting.

Different statements related to EVMs and E-voting given by federal ministers will be reviewed in the meeting and important decisions are expected to be taken, sources said Sunday.

Sources confirmed that legal actions against Federal Ministers Azam Sawati and Fawad Chaudhary will be under consideration.
The meeting will also elaborate ECP’s stance about using EVMs in coming elections.

According to sources, ECP is fully authorized to take any legal action as per election act 2017’s clause 10.

It is pertinent to mention here that Federal Ministers Azam Sawati, Fawad Chaudhary and PM’s Advisor Babar Awan had used harsh language against ECP and its head and had alleged him of minting money from opposition and being a ‘spokesperson’ of opposition.
