Opposition parties steering committee meeting today: opposition agrees to cooperate on legislation with pre-conditions

ISLAMABAD, Nov 13 (Online): Opposition has decided to give reply to the letter from Speaker National Assembly (NA) Asad Qaisar on the matter of controversial legislation in parliament and decision has been taken to summon opposition parties steering committee meeting today (Sunday) in this regard.

This meeting will be held through video link and central leadership of all political parties included in steering committee will participate in this meeting.
However the sources have claimed opposition has conditionally agreed for cooperating with government in legislation. The opposition parties have asked speaker NA to stay neutral and make himself powerful. Some ministers should not interfere in speaker office.

When contacted by Online on this issue, former speaker NA Ayyaz Sadiq said the speaker NA letter will be reviewed during steering committee meeting today and reply will be given to this letter. However it is our stance is very clear that all the ordinances promulgated by president Arif Alvi recently including NAB amendment ordinance be presented in the house for debate. All the 20 laws which were approved during a session under deputy speaker Qasim Soori in the past by bulldozing all the rules in haste be presented again in the house. Parliamentary committee should review every bill clause wise.

He further said that the joint session be summoned after forging consensus over controversial bills. If government does not do so then the opposition will voice strong protest like its earlier protests.
He held that opposition stance should be heard with regard to legislation. We should be taken into confidence then we are ready to cooperate in legislation process in the meeting to be held under the mediation of speaker NA.

He indicated the opposition parties have taken no decision regarding in-house change.
