BEIJING, Dec 12 (APP):
Huawei has surged back to the top of China’s smartphone market for two consecutive weeks, overtaking Apple, driven by strong sales of its Mate 80 series, which officially went on sale on November 28, according to media reports citing the latest data from a market research firm.
In the 48th week of 2025 (November 24–30), Huawei captured 27.81 percent of China’s smartphone market share, pushing Apple to second place with 17.12 percent. OPPO, vivo, and Honor completed the top five rankings during the same period, media reports said.
Huawei maintained its lead in the 49th week of 2025 (December 1–7), securing a 22.89 percent market share compared to Apple’s 18.65 percent. OPPO and vivo again followed, while Xiaomi ranked fifth with a market share of 13.30 percent.
Analysts attributed Huawei’s market resurgence largely to the Mate 80 series’ aggressive pricing strategy, along with the growing maturity of Huawei’s self-developed HarmonyOS ecosystem, which has driven a notable shift in consumer preference.
HarmonyOS now supports more than 300,000 native apps and meta-services. The number of devices running HarmonyOS 5 and HarmonyOS 6 has surpassed 27 million, according to Richard Yu Chengdong, Chairman of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group, who disclosed the figures on November 25 at Huawei’s latest product launch event.
Despite rising global memory costs, Huawei launched the Mate 80 series at lower prices. According to media reports, the standard Mate 80 model starts at 4,699 yuan (approximately $665.8), which is 800 yuan cheaper than its predecessor. The Mate 80 Pro is priced at 5,999 yuan, down 500 yuan, while the Pro Max version starts at 7,999 yuan, also 500 yuan lower.
Consumers and netizens have widely praised the new lineup as offering “more for less,” citing flagship-level performance at reduced prices.
Analysts noted that the combination of competitive pricing, high-end hardware performance, and a rapidly maturing domestic software ecosystem has propelled Huawei back to market leadership in its home country.
