ISLAMABAD, Oct 25 (Online): Election Commission (EC) has challenged in Supreme Court (SC) the interim order of Lahore High Court (LHC) regarding suspension of its show cause notice in the matter of contempt of election commission proceedings against Imran Khan
The election commission has taken the plea in its petition that election commission is a constitutional institution. Notices were issued to Imran Khan, Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry as per law. Show cause notices were issued to these three persons as the replies filed by them were found unsatisfactory.
The interim order of LHC cannot be maintained as per law. Through the LHC interim order it was tried to curtail the election commission powers. Section 10 of election act is not in conflict with article 175 and 204.
The election commission has requested the SC to nullify the September 21 interim order of LHC.
