Birmingham (PNI) Aghosh UK recently hosted a special dinner in Birmingham to honour Air Marshal Arshad Malik (Retd.), Vice President of Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan. The gathering brought together health professionals, business leaders, community representatives, councillors, and academicians.
Air Marshal Malik—recipient of Pakistan’s three highest civil awards—briefed the audience on Alkhidmat’s ongoing relief efforts in Gaza and Pakistan’s flood-affected areas. He shared that thousands of tons of relief items have been delivered to Gaza via air cargo, shipments, and other channels. In partnership with Aghosh UK, Alkhidmat is also sponsoring 1,500 orphans in Gaza, supporting hundreds of medical and education students, distributing hot meals, establishing a water filtration plant, and rehabilitating health clinics. Hundreds of medical students are receiving lessons through distance learning, while several hundred others have been taken to Pakistan and other countries to complete their medical studies.
“Despite these efforts, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza far exceeds the aid delivered so far. The UN reports that children are dying from starvation, and unrestricted aid will only be possible once a ceasefire is in place,” Air Marshal Malik stated.
He also highlighted Pakistan’s flood-relief operations, noting that over PKR 250 million (25 crore) has been spent in the last two weeks to support affected people by providing them with food, tents, medicines, and debris removal. He added that the trust of the Pakistani nation in Alkhidmat is remarkable, with hundreds of people sincerely joining its mission as volunteers.
During the event, Dr Adeel Riaz (Chairman, Aghosh UK), Abid Khawajah (CEO, Aghosh UK), and Fahim Kayani (Co-Founder, Aghosh UK) emphasised the strong partnership between Aghosh UK and Alkhidmat Foundation in delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza and flood-hit areas of Pakistan.
Community leaders and attendees expressed deep appreciation for the humanitarian work of Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan and Aghosh UK. They especially commended the Orphan Care Programme, which has supported 32,000 orphans to date, alongside impactful initiatives in seven other key sectors: Health, Disaster Management, WASH, Community Services, Muwakhat (microfinance), and the Bano Qabil Skills Programme.
