MQM-P reiterates demand of separate province

KARACHI   –  Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui reiterated the party’s demand of separate province for people belonging to urban part of Sindh and said that new provinces should be formed across the country on basis of population. Addressing a public gathering at Nishtar Park to mark the party’s 37th founding day, Khalid also asked their coalition federal government to announce a new census and allocate budget for it. He also urged the need for transparent voter list and remarking of constituencies. Senior Deputy Convener Amir Khan said that MQM-P workers had to go through serious circumstances that workers of any other political party never faced. “Our workers were extra-judicially killed but our youth never took up arms,” he said.

Amir was of the view that their only fault was to raise the voice of the oppressed and middle class.

Senator Faisal Sabzwari said that middle class people were elected and represented their class in assemblies only through platform of MQM-P. “If you want to see the representation of common man in the assemblies, look at MQM-P,” he added.

Sabzwari said the people of Urban Sindh were not counted correctly in any census since the time of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, adding that the day the census was done free and fair, the Chief Minister will be from Urban Sindh. He said that MQM-P was the only party which approached every forum against the census.

He said that it was decided in the Council of Common Interest (CCI) that 5 percent audit of census would be done but to no avail. “If 5 percent of the census cannot be audited, then a new census should be held,” he demanded.
