Justice Ayesha Malik takes oath as first woman judge of SC

ISLAMABAD, Jan 24 (Online): Justice Ayesha Malik on Monday became first woman judge of Supreme Court (SC) in the history of the country by taking oath as judge of SC on Monday.

The oath taking ceremony was held in SC which was attended by judges of SC, Attorney General, senior lawyers, law officers and officers of law and justice commission of Pakistan.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed administered the oath to Justice Ayesha Malik.

Justice Ayesha A. Malik was born in 1966 and received her early education in Paris, New York and Karachi.
She did her B.Com from Karachi and obtained her LLB degree from Lahore.

Malik completed her LLM from Harvard Law School, USA. The 55-year-old justice sworn in as a judge of Lahore High Court (LHC) on March 27, 2012.
Justice Ayesha A. Malik will be the judge of the Supreme Court till March 2031. She is fourth on the seniority list in the LHC.

Talking to media men on the occasion CJP Gulzar Ahmed said Justice Ayesha Malik has become judge due to her ability. We will not take credit of anything.

Answering to a question from a journalist that Justice Ayesha Malik name was considered as a judge or as a woman the CJP Gulzar Ahmed said as a woman.

Attorney General (AG) Khalid Javed Khan said this is significant day of history of Pakistan that a woman judge has been appointed in SC for the first time in the history of the country. It is matter of pleasure for all of us. True reflection of the population will be seen in the SC for the first time.

Judicial commission had approved appointment of Justice Ayesha Malik of Lahore High Court as judge in SC with majority vote on January 06.

The ministry of law and justice had issued notification of induction of Justice Ayesha Malik as judge of SC with the approval of the President.
