Chief Election Commissioner decides not to meet President Arif Alvi

ISLAMABAD, AUG 24 (ONLINE): Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja has decided not to meet President Arif Alvi.
The meeting held under CEC has concluded. The meeting was attended by members and secretary Election Commission (EC).

The meeting reviewed the invitation of President Arif Alvi. The constitutional matters about the date of election were reviewed in the meeting as well.

According to EC sources legal team advised CEC not to make consultation with the president.

The legal team said there is no need to make consultation with the president on election schedule under election act.

The legal team said following the amendment in election act, the powers for giving date for election now rest with the EC.

Delimitation of constituencies is constitutional responsibility of EC under article 51.
