Lahore – September 7 (Online): Punjab government has decided to provide education to prisoners prisoned across the province.
According to a notification forwarded by Punjab police chief to all the jail superintendents of province, government has decided to educate 40000 prisoners across Punjab.
Two ‘centers for providing education to adults’ will be established in every central jail while one will be established in every district jail throughout Punjab.
Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will implement the project, the notification says.
According to sources, project related officers Monday met IG jails to discuss the feasibility of project and it was decided that teachers from AIOU will teach educational and skill-based courses to prisoners.
