Punjab police hailed for foiling terror attack

ISLAMABAD – February 1 (ONLINE) Punjab police on Tuesday blocked a terror attack at Makarwal police station in Mianwali district, forcing terrorists to flee.

Media reports quoted officials as saying that police personal, along with Counter Terrorism Department’s (CTD) officials and other security forces responded abruptly on Tuesday night as 20-25 assailants attacked Makarwal police station.

After an exchange of fire – in which no police official was injured luckily and some terrorists received wounds – the assailants were forced to retreat and flee.

Lauding the effort by Punjab police, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had said that the entire nation and institutions are united to eliminate the menace of terrorism.

In a statement, he was appreciative of the Punjab police for thwarting a terrorist attack on Makerwal police station in Mianwali and announced to give awards and certificates of appreciation to the police officers who demonstrated extraordinary courage.

On Wednesday, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb applauded Punjab Police for foiling terrorist attack.

In a statement on Wednesday, the minister said PML-N government in it’s previous terms in Punjab had made the Punjab Police and CTD an effective force with modern weapons and training to eradicate terrorism.

She said the nation is proud of its forces and salutes their spirit in the fight against terrorism.
