LAHORE, DEC 26 (ONLINE): Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered jail employees to extend better treatment to the prisoners.
The court issued order on the petitions pertaining to basic rights in jail.
The order said separate jails be set up for female prisoners in Lahore , Rawalpindi and Faisalabad. Protection of the basic rights of female prisoners in jails be ensured.
The court ordered that the last year for the prisoners who are imprisoned since long be spent in open jail. Open jail be prepared with least security.
3200 accused from Islamabad jurisdiction are imprisoned in Rawalpindi jail. Establishment of jail in Islamabad can curtail rush in Rawalpindi jail.
The written order said jail employees should provide better treatment to prisoners. People with mental illness be shifted to Punjab Institute of Mental Health. Separate wards be constructed for them.
The court ordered that treatment of people with mental illness who are imprisoned in jails at Rawalpindi and Multan be ensured as well. Punjab government should also work on training of probation officers.
