Bid to smuggle foreign cigarettes worth Rs 50 M foiled

ATTOCK, Oct 24 (Online): The National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) on Tuesday foiled the smuggling of non-custom paid cigarettes, arrested two suspects and recovered 330 cartons worth Rs.50 million from the dumper.

According to sector in charge NH&MP DSP Motorway Younas Khan, duty-free cigarettes were being smuggled from Swabi to Lahore through a dumper vehicle worth Rs 50 million. He said that two smugglers, Mashooq Ahmed and Niaz Wali both native of KPK were arrested by stopping the dumper near Haro Toll Plaza after successful action on GT Road.

According to the official, the dumper full of cigarettes passed through several check posts which was suspicious and was intercepted near Haro toll plaza check post. He added that both of the accused were handed over to the local police for further legal action.
