HYDERABAD, Dec 12 (APP): On the instructions of the Chief Minister Sindh and the Minister for Local Government, Deputy Commissioner Matiari Muhammad Yousuf Shaikh held a meeting with elected representatives of the district’s local bodies on Friday, during which a comprehensive strategy was devised to ensure 100 percent results in the anti-polio campaign starting from December 15.
According to a handout, addressing the meeting, the deputy commissioner said that achieving complete success in the upcoming campaign was essential to eradicate a dangerous disease like polio from its roots. He noted that reports had been received from various areas regarding parents refusing to administer polio drops to their children, terming the trend highly concerning.
He stressed that elected representatives should directly engage with residents of their respective areas and explain that there is no cure for polio, and that only preventive drops can protect children from lifelong disability.
The deputy commissioner directed that door-to-door contact must be ensured in every union council, no child should be left without polio drops, and public confidence in the vaccination drive should be strengthened.
The municipal, town, and union council chairmen assured the meeting of their full support to make the anti-polio campaign completely successful. All elected chairmen of local bodies and other relevant participants attended the meeting.
