KPK govt ready to hold LG elections in November, ECP told

ISLAMABAD, Oct 5 (APP):The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was apprised on Tuesday that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government was ready to hold first phase of Local Government elections in the province in November 2021.

The meeting of the ECP, chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, was told that the KPK government was ready to hold LG elections in different phases.

The ECP directed the provincial government to submit complete schedule of holding LG elections in phases to ECP by October 14, so that the date of the LG elections in KPK could be announced accordingly.

The ECP decided to conduct delimitation of constituencies for holding next general elections in light of latest population figures of the government and directed its staff to make arrangements in that regard.

The ECP directed its concerned departments to ensure making all required arrangements for holding next general elections in the year 2023. The commission also decided to review and electoral rolls so that the next elections of 2023 could be held on updated electoral rolls.

The commission asked the voters to ensure the entry of their permanent or temporary address on their computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) and accordingly correct their addresses in the electoral rolls. The ECP also urged the people to ensure omitting of deceased voters from the voters lists.

The ECP also received in camera briefing on Daska by Election Inquiry report. The meeting was attended by Secretary Election Commission, Four Provincial Elections Commissioners and senior officers of the commission.
