Attock, July 20, 2022 (Online): Improper disposal of cattle died of Lumpy skin disease creates panic among masses in Hazro and adjacent areas as a large number of dead cattle were thrown by cattle breeders and live stock traders in open places.
The Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD), which had earlier spread in various parts of the district Attock, affected a large number of cattle in Hazro area as scores of livestock especially cow and buffalo suffered from it in different villages causing panic and fear among the people living in the area besides farmers, cattle breeders and cattle dealers whom cattle are dying.
The locals of the area have expressed their concern over foul smell emitting of the dead animals.
They feared that it would cause spread of different diseases in the area.
Muhammad Shafeeq, a resident of area told that farmers throw their dead animals in the open fields which attract wild animals and create panic among masses besides fear of spreading different diseases in the area.
Arslan Khan- a farmer alleged that vaccines are not available in the stock of district live stock department while the vaccine available in the market are not effective resultantly a large number of cattle are affected with Lumpy Skin Disease and cattle are dying rapidly in the area. He said that farmer have no option to dispose of the dead animals as shifted dead cattle to safer places cause extra financial burden over them.
A farmer Rafqat Zaman said that massive activity of movement of the cattle on the eid ul Azha has aggravated the situation which caused rapid spread of the disease among the cattle especially cow and buffalo and now the affected cattle are dying. He said that the smell led to making breathing difficult to the population living nearby area.
Aftab Gujjar- another cattle owner has said that there is no proper space of disposal of died cattle and resultantly farmer thrown them in open which become feed of dogs, vulture , jackals, cows and other animal which not only pollute the environment but also transmitting of the disease among other animals.
PTI district President Qazi Ahmed Akbar told that after getting information of abandoning animals died due to Lumpy Skin Disease in open, he took stock of the situation and informed officials of tehsil municipal administration Hazro for proper disposal of dead animals and subsequently an operation was carried out in which the dead animals were disposed off. He said that arrangements of the proper vaccination of the cattle with the coordination of district live stock department would also be launched in the area in the soon.
Assistant commissioner Waqas Aslam Marth has urged masses to cooperate with the masses in regarding proper disposal of the dead animals. He said that the cattle owners, breeder and farmers should informed sanitation department of the TMA, and the dead animals would be properly disposed off without any charges as abandoning the dead animals in open would not only pollute environment causing rotten smell unbearable for nearby population but also cause gathered a large number of birds which could proved fatal for the jet planes flying from nearby Kamra air base.
